Life as a UF CJC Student

Properties and Facilities – UF College of Journalism and ...I transferred to the University of Florida in 2018, coming in as a Junior. I had dreams of becoming a broadcast journalist in the future. My first class happened to be in the college of journalism and communications in Weimer Hall.  I felt at home very quickly.
Once I started working in the newsroom (INC), I adapted and began learning what it takes to become a real news reporter. I feel that it has given me many skills that I need to become the best reporter I can be. I have gotten experience even doing in-the-field stories, and even interviewed some local celebrities like Steve Spurrier and Bill Nelson. 
Alumni and Friends – UF College of Journalism and CommunicationsThe center CMIR (Center for Media Innovation) has really been a huge part of my transition to UF. It has been a big part of helping my own personal research during my stories.
I feel that since the outbreak of COVID-19, the CJC has done a great job of keeping its students active with their school work. I don't feel like I have missed out on much of my academics. 
I do miss being able to be on campus, but I am grateful for the pursuance of my university and college.

Rescue Pets

This week I was able to cover a story that I absolutely loved. I got to work with some adorable furry friends! Senator Kevin Rader is attempting to pass a bill that would make shelter animals the official "State Pet." I went to Alachua County Animal Services to ask what their opinion on this was. I spoke with the shelter director, Ed Williams about the bill. He said he was ecstatic to hear more attention would be brought to these sweet animals. Williams said, "Anything that increases foot traffic to our shelters, and increases adoptions is a wonderful idea." The shelter has tens of hundreds of dogs, and Williams said he hopes that many of them will find a home. "We have a whole lot of dogs that need homes...People should realize that even though the dogs are from shelters, they're not damaged goods." Japan Cancels School Due to Coronavirus

Japan closes schools for an entire month due to fast spreading Coronavirus.  In the past couple weeks the outbreak of the Coronavirus has been terrorizing the public. The virus, also referred to as COVID-19 , was first discovered in China. It has since spread throughout the Asian and European countries, as well as a few cases found in the United States. Japan has recently shocked the nation by shutting down all schools for nearly a month . Closing schools for more than two weeks is almost un-heard of; many parents are surprised by the drastic step to help keep the country healthy. If the virus is continuing to spread, there is talk that the 2020 Olympics to be held in Tokyo will also be canceled. The Olympics has only been canceled in 1916, 1940, and 1944 due to World War I and World War II. Residents in the U.S. have been nervous about the eventual spread of the virus in the states.
