It has since spread throughout the Asian and European countries, as well as a few cases found in the United States.
Japan has recently shocked the nation by shutting down all schools for nearly a month. Closing schools for more than two weeks is almost un-heard of; many parents are surprised by the drastic step to help keep the country healthy.
If the virus is continuing to spread, there is talk that the 2020 Olympics to be held in Tokyo will also be canceled. The Olympics has only been canceled in 1916, 1940, and 1944 due to World War I and World War II.
Residents in the U.S. have been nervous about the eventual spread of the virus in the states. It can be spread through human interaction and even through the air. However, officials say the best way to avoid being infected is basic techniques like washing hands, avoiding crowded spaces, and not shaking hands with others.
The United States does not have too much to worry about in regards to this disease as of yet; only 60 cases have struck on North American soil. However, they are being encouraged to use extra precautions for safety, and some are wearing face masks to help prevent spreading the disease. There have been over 82,000 cases worldwide, and 2,800 people have passed away from the virus internationally.
