Karla Robaina shares about secret and fun places to go in Gainesville. I really enjoy her blogs because I often think there isn't much to do in Gainesville.

 Sarina Nunes writes blogs about the best restaurants in Gainesville and posts some different pop culture content. I'm definitely a "foodie" so her blogs are very helpful.

Japan closes schools for an entire month due to fast spreading Coronavirus.  In the past couple weeks the outbreak of the Coronavirus has been terrorizing the public. The virus, also referred to as COVID-19 , was first discovered in China. It has since spread throughout the Asian and European countries, as well as a few cases found in the United States. Japan has recently shocked the nation by shutting down all schools for nearly a month . Closing schools for more than two weeks is almost un-heard of; many parents are surprised by the drastic step to help keep the country healthy. If the virus is continuing to spread, there is talk that the 2020 Olympics to be held in Tokyo will also be canceled. Erika Stallings Bio Blog My name is Erika Stallings and I am a Senior at the University of Florida.     I am studying Telecommunications and have a passion for news and media. I have always had a fascination for how a news station puts together its shows and the drive some reporters have when covering stories. My dream is to one day work for a national news network, or be a entertainment reporter.    Since being accepted to UF I have learned a lot about writing, filming and editing for television news. My love for news and media has only gotten deeper now that I am diving into fascinating stories in my local community.  I have covered many different stories in Gainesville in very different places. Some of my favorite pieces I have worked on were when I interviewed a former governor , played with some puppies , visited a museum , worked on a house, and went to a fire station .

Rescue Pets

This week I was able to cover a story that I absolutely loved. I got to work with some adorable furry friends! Senator Kevin Rader is attempting to pass a bill that would make shelter animals the official "State Pet." I went to Alachua County Animal Services to ask what their opinion on this was. I spoke with the shelter director, Ed Williams about the bill. He said he was ecstatic to hear more attention would be brought to these sweet animals. Williams said, "Anything that increases foot traffic to our shelters, and increases adoptions is a wonderful idea." The shelter has tens of hundreds of dogs, and Williams said he hopes that many of them will find a home. "We have a whole lot of dogs that need homes...People should realize that even though the dogs are from shelters, they're not damaged goods."
